At Beyond the Label, we believe communication is a human right—not a privilege.

Nontraditional communication, including AAC, is too often misunderstood or overlooked, sending the harmful message: “You’re broken.” The truth? Every voice matters.

We work to normalize AAC and nonverbal communication in everyday society, represent it publicly, and educate communities to see these methods for what they truly are: valid, real languages—every bit as legitimate as English, Spanish, or French. When children and families are exposed to a wide range of communication methods early, language grows, stigma shrinks, and understanding becomes the norm.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we dedicate our time and efforts to creating inclusive social spaces and community opportunities for AAC users of all abilities. It is vital—educationally and socially—to recognize, value, and learn all the ways people communicate, because each supports and strengthens the other.
