What is More Choices for Voices?

More Choices for Voices is a youth-led, community-embedded initiative by Beyond the Label (BTL) that centers the voices and leadership of AAC users.

We create and support opportunities for AAC users to fully participate, lead, and be seen in everyday public life—from restaurants and libraries to parks, banks, dance studios, and more.

By placing communication tools like AAC boards and signage in familiar spaces—and ensuring AAC users lead every step of the process—we’re redefining what real inclusion looks and sounds like.

Why It Matters

When communication diversity is visible and expected, we:

  • Break down stigma

  • Foster empathy

  • Build more equitable communities

This initiative isn’t about doing something for AAC users. It’s led by them. Every moment—from creating communication tools to working with local partners—is an opportunity for:

  • Self-advocacy

  • Skill-building

  • Community education

We believe in one powerful truth:

Diverse voices belong everywhere.

Program Goals

1. Empower AAC Users as Leaders

Put AAC users at the forefront of decision-making, design, and delivery.
This is their voice in action.

2. Create Visible Communication Access

Partner with local businesses, schools, and community venues to install communication boards and tools—making AAC a familiar and expected part of everyday life.

3. Foster Real-World Skills

Support AAC users in leading outreach, managing logistics, and collaborating with community partners.
Hands-on action builds lifelong confidence.

4. Normalize Diverse Communication Styles

Increase public understanding of AAC.
Challenge outdated ideas about who can lead, contribute, and belong.

5. Build Inclusive Communities

Engage families, educators, businesses, and the public to make communication access a lasting part of our cultural fabric.
Not a special feature—a new standard.

Whether you’re an AAC user, educator, business owner, or ally, there’s a role for you in making communication access visible and celebrated.
